You know the saying " do the best you can with what you've been givin"? Well El Tesoro is like that three legged dog at the dog park that out runs all the other dogs. It is located in a mini mall at the Sanbusco Center which I think helps instead of hurts this quaint little lunch spot. You walk in thinking "okay, I haven't committed yet. I can still turn around and walk over to Tomasitas." Then you think "naaagh, let's give it a shot." Well good on you. I think you'll find that you chose well! You don't know whether to sit or wait to be seated. You see people sitting but don't quite know what is going on. Then you see the two to five people standing by the kitchen area. You see the blackboard with the writing on it. Is it the writing on the wall? No! It's the menu and those people are standing in line to order. Wow! Now you get the hang of it. You're hip, you're in the know, you've been here before. Everything looks so good. The kitchen looks clean and the food coming out looks fresh. It's time to place your order. "Yes, I'll have the grilled tuna tacos, please, with a large iced tea" Now sit, eat, enjoy, just like I did.

Killer breakfast burrito! That was the best plate at the table. That alone merits the 5 stars! Everything else was well cooked, ample New Mexican style breakfast, nothing fancy. We got some pastries too. They were not typical American pastries, more Salvadorean I guess. Somehow we left without ordering pupusas. I don;t know what we were thinking. Next time...OH BTW-- NOT open for dinner!

Awesome little place INSIDE the small mall near REI. A hidden gem :-) Very fresh, well cooked Mexican food. Salmon tacos are delicious! Carne asada plate is great too! Not hectic during the week. Great place to chill :-)

Family-run, always delicious, always friendly. New Mexican food with a Salvadorean twist: fresh agua sandia and horchata are available frequently. Great dishes: huevos motuleños (eggs with black beans, plantains, peas, feta cheese, chile), burrito casamiento (homemade burrito with rice, beans, chile), homemade tamales. They have a nice, smoky red chile and free wifi. As others have mentioned, this place punches way above its weight. If you find yourself in the Railyard at lunchtime, save some money over Flying Star and come here instead.

Truly a wee treasure. If you can handle the spice of the chilaquiles, they are amazing. Huevo a rancheros, also quite zesty, are amazing. So many other things I want to try at this quaint, unassuming little gem and will definitely stop here every time I pass through The City Different.

I go there quite often as I work right next door. I usually have the pupusas revueltas, which are made fresh! But I've tried almost everything on their menu. I love their black beans and rice. The service is really good and the staff is very friendly. Everything is very fresh and delicious. I like that they have different flavors of aguas frescas daily.

These guys truly amaze me each time...it's a great place for an inexpensive, quick meal. The pupusas are yummy, my one year old loves to eat the bean and cheese pupusa, I like them all. The Agua Frescas are awesome and always fresh, plus I know I'm getting my money's worth when I can keep it under $20 for 3 adults and a baby. Well done...

A little cafe in a shopping village. They apparently serve breakfast all day. The sabroso omelete is super tasty and the quesadilla with chorizo was excellent. The staff is rather quiet and shy but nice. Great place in Santa Fe.

I don't want to take a dig at a hard working family run eatery but the point of Yelp is to alert fellow Yelpers to good AND bad dining experiences and mine was really pretty poor. Carne Asada consisted of a 1/4" thin, tasteless, grayish mystery meat served with undercooked black beans and rice and a small dollop of guacamole and salsa. You get what you pay for and for $10 you can't expect fine dining but this just no good. Sorry El Tesoro---it's adios for me!!

A good option if your looking for a nice, casual, affordable, easy option near the railroad station. Friendly staff and many Mexican/New Mexican options along with Papusas (Salvadoran). Free refills on soft drinks and coffee for those who eat there. They have tables in San Busco Plaza. Casual and Informal.

I have been living and dining in northern New Mexico for over 60 years. El Tesoro is my FAVORITE place in Santa Fe for huevos rancheros. The food is great, the service is friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. There are bigger, fancier, and more commercialized places to eat in Santa Fe, but if you prefer smaller, family owned restaurants with great food, check this place out

This place is good because $10 will buy me lunch. Of course, the food is always tastes good. Not five stars because sometimes they slip up, but overall they are my safety for a hearty lunch. The quesadilla pastry is good!

While visiting family in New Mexico, we decided to spend a day in Santa Fe and we stumbled on this little shop for lunch. I saw in the window that they sold pupusas and I had to give them a try. The inlaws both ordered salads which were delicious and I can't remember what my Husband got, but he liked his food too. My pupusas were fabulous with lots of filling. I got pork as well as bean and cheese and they were super tasty. They only serve it with a tiny amount of cabbage so you will have to ask for more on the side, but they are happy to comply. The indoor patio is elevated so you can people watch the folks shopping below you in the mall. It's a great little shop!

It looks crowded, and busy, but it's actually really quick and efficient. Order at the counter, take your number, find a table, have a quick wait, eat delicious food. Once again, I feel I must point out this is not "NEW Mexican" style food. They do have enchiladas on the menu, but I'm betting they even have a Salvadoran style to them. If you are looking for traditional New Mexican style food go somewhere else. If you want to try something different, Tesoros will not disappoint. And if you've never had it, get the fried (grilled?) bananas and yucca.

Tucked in a urban mall, El Tesoro is a little gem. It's Salvadorean run (not Mexican) but serves a great breakfast and good lunch. Try the paposas (stuffed with beans and cheese) and the blue corn enchiladas. Nothing fancy but good.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
